In Convalescence Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AA BB CC DD EE FF GG HH II

Not long ago I prayed for dying graceA
For then I thought to see Thee face to faceA
-
And now I ask Lord 'tis a weakling's cryB
That Thou wilt give me grace to live not dieB
-
Such foolish prayers I know Yet pray I mustC
Lord help me help me not to see the dustC
-
And not to nag nor fret because the blindD
Hangs crooked and the curtain sags behindD
-
But oh The kitchen cupboards What a sightE
'T'will take at least a month to get them rightE
-
And that last cocoa had a smoky tasteF
And all the milk has boiled away to wasteF
-
And no I resolutely will not thinkG
About the saucepans nor about the sinkG
-
These light afflictions are but temporal thingsH
To rise above them wilt Thou lend me wingsH
-
Then I shall smile when Jane with towzled hairI
And lumpy gruel clatters up the stairI
