After Death Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABA CADA EAFA EGEG HEFE AIFI JAEA

Shall mine eyes behold thy glory oh my countryA
Shall mine eyes behold thy gloryA
Or shall the darkness close around them ere the sun blazeB
Break at last upon thy storyA
-
When the nations ope for thee their queenly circleC
As sweet new sister hail theeA
Shall these lips be sealed in callous death and silenceD
That have known but to bewail theeA
-
Shall the ear be deaf that only loved thy praisesE
When all men their tribute bring theeA
Shall the mouth be clay that sang thee in thy squalorF
When all poets' mouths shall sing theeA
-
Ah the harpings and the salvos and the shoutingsE
Of thy exiled sons returningG
I should hear tho' dead and mouldered and the grave dampsE
Should not chill my bosom's burningG
-
Ah the tramp of feet victorious I should hear themH
'Mid the shamrocks and the mossesE
And my heart should toss within the shroud and quiverF
As a captive dreamer tossesE
-
I should turn and rend the cere cloths round meA
Giant sinews I should borrowI
Crying Oh my brothers I have also loved herF
In her loneliness and sorrowI
-
Let me join with you the jubilant processionJ
Let me chant with you her storyA
Then contented I shall go back to the shamrocksE
Now mine eyes have seen her gloryA
