| Caress the glowing sky | B |
| O'er crested waves the colors glance | C |
| And gleaming softly die | B |
| A gentle calm from heaven falls | D |
| And weaves a mystic spell | E |
| A glowing grace that charms the soul | F |
| Whose glory none can tell | E |
| - | |
| Oh warm sweet treasures of a sun | A |
| Of endless fire and love | G |
| Those dying embers are the flames | H |
| From heavenly fires above | G |
| Unto the water's edge they creep | I |
| And bathe the seas in red | J |
| Then die like shadows on the deep | I |
| With glory cold and dead | J |
| - | |
| A ship a lone dark wanderer | K |
| Upon the southern seas | L |
| Speeds like a white faced messenger | K |
| Before the dying breeze | L |
| Her masts are tipped with amethyst | M |
| A splendor all untold | N |
| A crimson mantle wraps her round | O |
| Her sails are made of gold | N |
| - | |
| The light wind dies she slowly drifts | P |
| Then stops an idle thing | Q |
| While sunset clouds around her prow | R |
| A dreamy grandeur fling | Q |
| And eyes upon her deck look forth | S |
| With looks of longing pain | T |
| A hundred sunsets they would give | U |
| Dear home to see again | V |
| - | |
| But see a shadow as of night | W |
| Spreads o'er the crimson sky | B |
| Like doomed and lifeless forms of earth | X |
| The clouds in heaven lie | B |
| A silence falls the ship stands still | Y |
| A fated thing of earth | X |
| Then like a child of sin and wrong | Z |
| The storm is given birth | X |
| - | |
| Oh struggle well ye gallant crew | A2 |
| With storm and wind and wave | B2 |
| For there are helpless women here | C2 |
| And children too to save | B2 |
| Quick sailors do your duty well | E |
| And man the life boats too | A2 |
| For soon the rocks will strand the ship | D2 |
| And pierce her through and through | A2 |
| - | |
| See like a woman turned to stone | E2 |
| A weeping mother stands | F2 |
| Her heart seems like seems like some frozen thing | Q |
| She wrings her trembling hands | F2 |
| Within her arms she holds a child | G2 |
| With frightened wond'ring eyes | H2 |
| Below the waters pitiless | I2 |
| Above the angry skies | H2 |
| - | |
| Beside her stands a fair young girl | J2 |
| With eyes that flash and quiver | K |
| They are the only ones still left | K2 |
| These three that moan and shiver | K |
| But soon a voice shouts back the words | L2 |
| Through all the deaf'ning roar | M2 |
| A strong hand grasps the trembling girl | J2 |
| There's room for just one more | M2 |
| - | |
| Stay stay she cries with whitened face | N2 |
| Why should I fear to die | B |
| Oh take this woman by my side | O2 |
| Nor stay to question why | B |
| She has a dear one 'mongst your crew | A2 |
| She is a mother too | A2 |
| I am alone I fear not death | P2 |
| If this you'll only do | A2 |
| - | |
| The sailor grasped the mother's hand | Q2 |
| She turned and kissed the maid | R2 |
| The tears of pity filled her eyes | H2 |
| Yet not one word she said | J |
| The maiden stood with outstretched hands | F2 |
| All hope indeed was gone | S2 |
| And yet she stood with fearless heart | T2 |
| Undaunted and alone | E2 |
| - | |
| Oh God the heart that knows your love | G |
| Will never need to fear | U2 |
| A priceless gem lies on my face | N2 |
| The mother's grateful tear | V2 |
| The lightnings swept across the ship | D2 |
| The darkness wrapped her round | O |
| Above the thunder of the storm | W2 |
| There came no other sound | O |
| - | |
| The morning broke the storm had fled | J |
| The wreck was washed away | X2 |
| And calmly now as yesterday | X2 |
| The sea in splendor lay | X2 |
| The noble heart that throbbed with life | Y2 |
| Lay fathoms deep below | Z2 |
| And what lies buried in that heart | T2 |
| The waves alone can know | Z2 |
