Twin lilies in the river floatingA
Two lilies pure and whiteB
And one is pale and faintly droopingA
The other glad and brightB
-
Twin lilies in the silvery watersC
Two lilies white and frailD
And one is ever laughing gladlyE
The other still and paleD
-
Upon the peaceful gleaming watersC
They linger side by sideF
And one her head is drooping sadlyE
The other glows with prideF
-
Twin stars are o'er the river beamingA
Two stars with silvery lightB
And now they look with glances lovingA
Upon the lilies whiteB
-
Two lilies now are drooping lowlyE
Unto the river tideF
While in the wave the stars reflectedG
Are floating side by sideF
-
And now the stars are bending slowlyE
To kiss the lilies whiteB
Who e'en their fragrant heads are liftingA
In wonder at the sightB
-
And one twin lily now is longingA
For light and heaven aboveH
And yields unto her star king's keepingA
Her wealth of life and loveH
-
And as the star god bends in raptureI
To kiss her pale white faceJ
Her soul is wafted into heavenK
Beneath his love and graceJ
-
Twin lilies in the tide were floatingA
With quickly coming breathL
But one is left with sad tears fallingA
To mourn her sister's deathL
-
Twin stars upon the waves were gleamingA
Two star gods pure and brightB
But one is left that one is fadingA
And dying with the nightB
