Two dark brown eyes looked into mineA
Two eyes with restless quiverB
A gentle hand crept in my ownC
Beside the gleaming riverB
-
Ah sweet I murmured passing sadD
You will forget me everB
The dear brown eyes their answer gaveE
I will forget you NEVERB
-
Up in the leaves above our headsF
The winds were softly dyingG
Down in the river at our feetH
The lilies pale were lyingG
The winds their mournful murmur sentI
You will forget me everB
The lilies raised their drooping headsF
We will forget you neverB
-
A spell hung o'er the numbered hoursJ
That chained each thought and feelingG
My heart was filled with idle dreamsK
That sent my sense reelingG
Once more I murmured Well I knowL
You will forget me everB
Yet still the same dear promise cameM
I will forget you NEVERB
-
Ah vain the words that we must speakN
Though we are still believingG
And subtle are the webs of fateO
That love is ever weavingG
The dark brown eyes meet mine no moreP
I am forgotten everB
And mocking memory echoes nowQ
I will forget you NEVERB
-
Beside the idle stream I standR
Where flowers droop and shiverB
And cold and dark it seems to meS
This dreary restless riverB
For sweet your eyes are lost to meS
I am forgotten everB
And only MEMORY echoes nowQ
I will forget you NEVERB
