Irene Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDE FGHGII JKLKMM NOPOQR

The years are slowly creeping onA
Beneath the summer sunB
Yet still in silent love and peaceC
Our lives serenely runB
Beyond the mist that veils the coming yearsD
I see no gathering clouds nor falling tearsE
-
Beside life's river we have stoodF
And lingered side by sideG
Where royal roses bloomed and blushedH
And gleamed the lily's prideG
And happily there we've plucked the sweet wild flowersI
while heedless passed away the sunny hoursI
-
Irene thy sunny face is litJ
With all the hope of youthK
God grant thy heart may never knowL
Aught but the purest truthK
Keep in thy soul its faith and trusting loveM
Until they e'en must bloom in heaven aboveM
-
Beside the river still we stayN
And swift the hours fly byO
While low upon the fragrant banksP
The flowers silent lieO
Yet far beyond the mist our longing eyesQ
Still seek the gleaming walls of paradiseR
