Amor Profanus Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDDC EFEFDDF GHGHIIH JHJHHHH

Beyond the pale of memoryA
In some mysterious dusky groveB
A place of shadows utterlyA
Where never coos the turtle doveC
A world forgotten of the sunD
I dreamed we met when day was doneD
And marvelled at our ancient loveC
-
Met there by chance long kept apartE
We wandered through the darkling gladesF
And that old language of the heartE
We sought to speak alas poor shadesF
Over our pallid lips had runD
The waters of oblivionD
Which crown all loves of men or maidsF
-
In vain we stammered from afarG
Our old desire shone cold and deadH
That time was distant as a starG
When eyes were bright and lips were redH
And still we went with downcast eyeI
And no delight in being nighI
Poor shadows most uncomfortedH
-
Ah Lalage while life is oursJ
Hoard not thy beauty rose and whiteH
But pluck the pretty fleeing flowersJ
That deck our little path of lightH
For all too soon we twain shall treadH
The bitter pastures of the deadH
Estranged sad spectres of the nightH
