Soli Cantare Periti Arcades Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAAA BABA ACAC DEFE GHGH GGGG AAAA

Oh I would live in a dairyA
And its Colin I would beA
And many a rustic fairyA
Should churn the milk with meA
-
Or the fields should be my pleasureB
And my flocks should follow meA
Piping a frolic measureB
For Joan or MarjorieA
-
For the town is black and wearyA
And I hate the London streetC
But the country ways are cheeryA
And country lanes are sweetC
-
Good luck to you Paris ladiesD
Ye are over fine and niceE
I know where the country maid isF
Who needs not asking twiceE
-
Ye are brave in your silks and satinsG
As ye mince about the TownH
But her feet go free in pattensG
If she wear a russet gownH
-
If she be not queen nor goddessG
She shall milk my brown eyed herdsG
And the breasts beneath her bodiceG
Are whiter than her curdsG
-
So I will live in a dairyA
And its Colin I will beA
And its Joan that I will marryA
Or haply MarjorieA
