Benedictio Domini Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDE FGFG AHAH

Without the sullen noises of the streetA
The voice of London inarticulateB
Hoarse and blaspheming surges in to meetA
The silent blessing of the ImmaculateC
-
Dark is the church and dim the worshippersD
Hushed with bowed heads as though by some old spellE
While through the incense laden air there stirsD
The admonition of a silver bellE
-
Dark is the church save where the altar standsF
Dressed like a bride illustrious with lightG
Where one old priest exalts with tremulous handsF
The one true solace of man's fallen plightG
-
Strange silence here without the sounding streetA
Heralds the world's swift passage to the fireH
O Benediction perfect and completeA
When shall men cease to suffer and desireH
