Walking Through The Upper East Side Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCD EFAAGH G AAEI DFFAJD AKALM

All over the district on leather couchesA
brocade couches on daybedsA
'professional divans ' they are confessingB
The air is thick with itC
the ears of analysts must be stickyD
-
Words fill the air above couches hover thereE
hanging like smog I imagineF
impossible Steinberg scrollsA
unutterable sounds suspended in inked curlicuesA
while the Braque print the innocuous UtrilloG
look on look on look onH
-
My six analysts for exampleG
-
the sly Czech who tucked his shoelacesA
under the tongues of his shoesA
the mistress of social work with orange hairE
the famous old german who saidI
'You sink zerefore you are '-
the bouncy American who loved to talk dirtyD
the bitchy widow of a famous theoreticianF
another or was it two I have forgottenF
they rise like a Greek chorus in my dreamsA
They reproach me for my messy lifeJ
They do not offer to refund my moneyD
-
the others siblings for an hour or soA
ghosts whom I brushed in out of the doorK
Sometimes the couch was warm from their bodiesA
Only our coats knew each otherL
rubbing shoulders in the dark closetM
