To Jon In October Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDDEEADAABFA AGHADD FIDJKA ACDJLMDN

Knowing our lives a drowseA
towards deathB
attended by dogsA
childrenC
how can it not matterD
that I rememberD
day after dayE
that one dayE
we shall loseA
each otherD
lose the lightsA
in each other's eyesA
to deathB
drift offF
to other universesA
-
Love shall not save usA
from being alone at the endG
the daughter we madeH
in that fine high exuberanceA
of having found each otherD
shall not save us eitherD
-
We shall go offF
into the ether aloneI
trying to rememberD
as the threads unravelJ
the brain cells turnK
to fluffy cumulus cloudsA
-
that on clear October daysA
like this oneC
when the hills wereD
red with mapleJ
gold with oakL
we bumped along in the JeepM
reminding each otherD
'Wake up Wake upN
This will not last forever '-
