The Man Under The Bed Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHI JKLLMNOPOQRS OTDUV

The man under the bedA
The man who has been there for years waitingB
The man who waits for my floating bare footC
The man who is silent as dustballs riding the darknessD
The man whose breath is the breathing of small white butterfliesE
The man whose breathing I hear when I pick up the phoneF
The man in the mirror whose breath blackens silverG
The boneman in closets who rattles the mothballsH
The man at the end of the end of the lineI
-
I met him tonight I always meet himJ
He stands in the amber air of a barK
When the shrimp curl like beckoning fingersL
ride through the air on their toothpick skewersL
When the ice cracks I am about to fall throughM
he arranges his face around its hollowsN
he opens his pupilless eyes at meO
For years he has waited to drag me downP
now he tells meO
he has only waited to take me homeQ
We waltz through the street like death the maidenR
We float through the wall of the wall of my roomS
-
If he's my dream he will fold back into my bodyO
His breath writes letters of mist on the glass of my cheeksT
I wrap myself around him like the darknessD
I breathe into his mouthU
make him realV
