The Heart, The Child, The World Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDBEF FGABBHIJKGKLMNOP QFBRALSTUB VW

Out in the world the childA
cries for the motherB
as the wound cries for saltC
as the lover criesD
for her unrequited loverB
as the ice cries outE
for melting in the springF
-
My heart is a springF
that pumps red bloodG
I would give my childA
my girl child my daughterB
the vision of a motherB
who does not flinchH
when the heavy heel of manI
comes downJ
who loves the penisK
when it pumps rich red bloodG
but values the wholenessK
of her heartL
above that battering organM
that dumb implementN
which can so easily turnO
from kind to cruelP
-
My heart is out in the worldQ
like an orphan howlingF
on a street cornerB
I want a warm safe placeR
to hide my books my childA
my heartL
that is scarredS
seamed like a bellyT
which has given birthU
to an imperious baby CaesarB
-
but stillV
despite its bursting fullnessW
