The Bed Of The World Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDECFGH IJFKLLMNOP QRRLFSTU LLFTV WUECE

The great bed of the worldA
arching over gravesB
over Babi YarC
with its multitude of bonesD
with battalions of screamsE
frozen in a concrete glacierC
with pillows of earthF
and comforters of green grassG
covering all that dead fleshH
-
Dead flesh shall live againI
a dream in god's endless nightJ
rise green out of the earthF
as grass as trees as tomato stalksK
bearing a bright red fruitL
and the feuds of man and womankindL
shall be fed again from the same seedsM
the tomato the mythic pomegranate the biblical appleN
all rising from the grass that springsO
out of the screams of stopped mouthsP
-
Sometimes I dreamQ
that my bed is built over a ravineR
the ravine of Babi Yar any ravineR
where thousands diedL
and I moan in pleasure to propitiate the earthF
to make fruit ripenS
and trees wave green leaves like bannersT
all because love can touch me stillU
-
It is never enough to createL
The beast must feed its meat teeth tooL
Out of the screaming mouth of earthF
we feed the grass that coversT
all our bedsV
-
I wish I did not know all that I knowW
Galaxies spin grass grows and people killU
We are the only race to murder for our dreamsE
and not for hungerC
hungering for dreamsE
