Sleep Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHE IDEEBJKLMEBN ODDPEEEEEHGQEREEST AUEV EDGWXEEPYZA2EDB2

I love to go to sleepA
When bed takes me like a loverB
wrapping my limbs inC
cool linen soothingD
the fretfulnessE
of day glaring likeF
the Cyclops' eyeG
in a foreheadH
of furrowsE
-
But I wakeI
always reluctantly brushingD
the dreamcrumbsE
from my lidsE
walking sideways underwaterB
like a crabJ
spilling coffeeK
knocking the mugL
to the floorM
where it shattersE
in a muddy riverB
to my continuo ofN
'Shit shit shit '-
-
What if deathO
is only a forgettingD
to wake in the morningD
a dream that goes onP
into other corridorsE
other chambersE
draped with other silksE
libraries of unwritten booksE
whose caleidoscopic pagesE
can be readH
only by the pinneal eyeG
music that can only be heardQ
by the seventh senseE
or the eighth or ninthR
until we possessE
an infinity of sensesE
none of themS
dependent on fleshT
-
What if our love of sleepA
is only a foretasteU
of the bliss that awaits usE
when we do not have to wake againV
-
What frightens us soE
about fallingD
To dropp the body and flyG
should be as naturalW
as drifting into a dreamX
But we are insomniacsE
tossing on soaked sheetsE
hanging onP
to our intricate painY
while God with her sweetZ
Mona Lisa smileA2
sings lullabyesE
the ears of the livingD
cannot hearB2
