I Live In New York Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDE FGHIJKL MNOP QRST UIVWX FBGYZA2B2 N

I am happiestA
near the oceanB
where the changing lightC
reminds me of my deathD
the fact that it need not be fatalE
-
yet I perch hereF
in the midst of the cityG
where the traffic dulls my sensesH
where my ears scream at sirensI
where transistor radio blastsJ
invade my poemsK
like alien war chantsL
-
But I never walkM
the streets of New YorkN
without hoping for the endO
of the worldP
-
How many yearsQ
before the streets return to flowersR
How many centuriesS
before the towers fallT
-
In my mind's eyeU
New York falls to ruinsI
Butterflies alight upon stonesV
and poppies springW
out of the asphalt fieldsX
-
Why do I stay hereF
when I love the oceanB
Because the ocean lulls meG
with its peaceY
Eternity is coming soon enoughZ
As monks sleepA2
in their own coffinsB2
-
I live in New YorkN
