This constant acheA
is my leg's message to meB
'Hello Hello HelloC
You're getting there ' it saysD
'step by step 'E
-
Legs aren't starsF
which sputter outG
go on gleaming anywayH
I've lived of courseI
with phantom limbsJ
-
but this fractureK
doesn't point toL
amputation NoC
It hisses at somethingM
much more finalN
-
Skin lanternO
necklace of teethP
the bones sinewsJ
are in revolt against usJ
We keep them downQ
-
with little bribesJ
vitamins penicillinR
now these pounds of plasterK
but they will bury usJ
good BolsheviksJ
-
know itS
So they've got time to bideT
Meanwhile spread eagleN
on these crutches a crippleN
sucking the ground with rubberK
-
nipples or else a knightU
up to my ass in armorK
I limp swing my wayH
across the streetV
up the stepsJ
-
moving here nowW
step by stepX
towards the futureK
that incurableN
fractureK
