By Train From Berlin Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD E FGHI J KFLD MNOP Q RSTU

A delicate border A nonexistent countryA
The train obligingly dissolves in smokeB
The G I next to me is talking warC
I don't 'know the Asian mind ' he saysD
-
Moving through old argumentsE
-
At Potsdam a globe shaped domeF
a pink canal reflecting sepia treesG
we pull next to a broken down old trainH
with REICHSBAHN lettered on its flankI
-
Thirty years sheer away leaving bare cliffJ
-
This is a country I don't recognizeK
Bone pale girls who have nothing to do with homeF
Everyone's taller than me everyone nakedL
'Life's cheap there ' he saysD
-
But why are we screaming over a trackM
which runs between a barbed wire corridorN
And why has it grown so dark outsideO
so bright in hereP
-
that even the pared moon is invisibleQ
-
In the window we can only see ourselvesR
America we carry with usS
two scared people talking deathT
on a train which can't stopU
