And his dark secret loveA
Does thy life destroyB
William BlakeC
-
Because I would not admitD
that I had nurturedE
an enemy within my breastF
-
a lover who wanted to gnawG
my secret roseH
a lover who wanted to press meI
between the covers of a bookJ
then burn itD
a lover usurper who wantedK
to take my soulL
-
I nearly diedM
running my car upon rocksN
like a badly steered sloopO
crashing into treesP
like a hurricane galeQ
burning my arms in ovensR
when I thought I was onlyI
baking breadS
-
To admit the betrayalT
was worse thanU
the fact of betrayalT
for I loved himV
as leaves love sunW
turning my face to himV
turning my hips my wombX
to be filled with a dreamY
of children a dream of booksZ
babies sprouting like leavesA2
from a spring treeI
a dream of trees that leaked bloodK
instead of sapB2
-
The dream s the thingC2
the dream we die forD2
turning our faces to the sunW
eyes closed never seeing it hasE2
gone outF2
dead star it blazes coldlyI
over a dead planetG2
while we bask in its afterglowH2
now remembered in the mindI2
-
He was fondJ2
of stars telescopesK2
fond of machines fondJ2
of building the most complexL2
contraptionsR
to scale the cloudsM2
But Icarus fliesN2
near the sun with waxen wingsO2
does not think of gearsP2
or motorsQ2
-
Trees rise up at himV
as he falls the earthR2
rushes to meet himV
like a loverS2
raising her writhing hipsT2
the wings weep their waxy tearsU2
fall apartV2
the sun is hotW2
on his faceX2
-
But even as he fallsY2
he is in ecstasyI
his sun has notW2
gone outF2
