Chanson Américaine Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDE FGEHIE JKLMN ONPN IQ

If I as I drive the CaravanA
with its nagging blister of rustB
on the driver's side doorC
home from the office on the dayD
the odometer turns overE
-
if I with my wife at workF
and my daughter away at collegeG
slip into the cassette playerE
the Johnny Mathis Greatest HitsH
tape I have just boughtI
at a yard sale for a quarterE
-
and if hearing that voiceJ
its luscious rise and fallK
which my mother loved as muchL
as she loved her romance novelsM
from the lending libraryN
-
I sing along the wordsO
coming effortlesslyN
to Wonderful WonderfulP
and am happy happyN
-
who shall say I am notI
that mad poet of my youthQ
