To A Detractor Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFEGHGHIJKLLMMN NOOPPQQCCCRSSRR

The Autumn promised and he keepsA
His word unto the meadow roseB
The pure bright lightnings herald SpringC
Serene and glad the fresh earth showsB
The rain has quenched her children's thirstD
Her cheeks but now so cold and dryE
Are soft and fair a laughing faceF
With clouds of purple shines the skyE
Though filled with light yet veiled with hazeG
Hark hark the turtle's mocking noteH
Outsings the valley pigeon's laysG
Her wings are gemmed and from her throatH
When the clear sun gleams back againI
It seems to me as though she woreJ
About her neck a jewelled chainK
Say wilt thou darken such a lightL
Wilt drag the clouds from heaven's heightL
Although thy heart with anger swellM
Yet firm as marble mine doth dwellM
Therein no fear thy wrath begetsN
It is not shaken by thy threatsN
Yea hurl thy darts thy weapons wieldO
The strength of youth is still my shieldO
My winged steed toward the heights doth boundP
The dust whiffs upward from the groundP
My song is scanty dost thou deemQ
Thine eloquence a mighty streamQ
Only the blameless offeringC
Not the profusion man may bringC
Prevaileth with our Lord and KingC
The long days out of minutes growR
And out of months the years ariseS
Wilt thou be master of the wiseS
Then learn the hidden stream to knowR
That from the inmost heart doth flowR
