Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DDDDEF DDDDGH DIDIJK LDLDMM NDODDD

Across the Eastern sky has glowedA
The flicker of a blood red dawnB
Once more the clarion cock has crowedA
Once more the sword of Christ is drawnB
A million burning rooftrees lightC
The world wide path of Israel's flightC
-
Where is the Hebrew's fatherlandD
The folk of Christ is sore besteadD
The Son of Man is bruised and bannedD
Nor finds whereon to lay his headD
His cup is gall his meat is tearsE
His passion lasts a thousand yearsF
-
Each crime that wakes in man the beastD
Is visited upon his kindD
The lust of mobs the greed of priestD
The tyranny of kings combinedD
To root his seed from earth againG
His record is one cry of painH
-
When the long roll of Christian guiltD
Against his sires and kin is knownI
The flood of tears the life blood spiltD
The agony of ages shownI
What oceans can the stain removeJ
From Christian law and Christian loveK
-
Nay close the book not now not hereL
The hideous tale of sin narrateD
Reechoing in the martyr's earL
Even he might nurse revengeful hateD
Even he might turn in wrath sublimeM
With blood for blood and crime for crimeM
-
Coward Not he who faces deathN
Who singly against worlds has foughtD
For what A name he may not breatheO
For liberty of prayer and thoughtD
The angry sword he will not whetD
His nobler task is to forgetD
