Symphonic Studies: Iv Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACDECFGGFHH

Hark from unfathomable deeps a dirgeA
Swells sobbing through the melancholy airB
Where Love has entered Death is also thereB
The wail outrings the chafed tumultuous surgeA
Ocean and earth the illimitable skiesC
Prolong one note a mourning for the deadD
The cry of souls not to be comfortedE
What piercing music Funeral visions riseC
And send the hot tears raining down our cheekF
We see the silent grave upon the hillG
With its lone lilac bush O heart be stillG
She will not rise she will not stir nor speakF
Surely the unreturning dead are blestH
Ring on sweet dirge and knell us to our restH
