Storm Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABBCC DEDFGHH IJIJJKL| Serene was morning with clear winnowed air | A |
| But threatening soon the low blue mass of cloud | B |
| Rose in the west with mutterings faint and rare | A |
| At first but waxing frequent and more loud | B |
| Thick sultry mists the distant hill tops shroud | B |
| The sunshine dies athwart black skies of lead | C |
| Flash noiselessly thin threads of lightning red | C |
| - | |
| Breathless the earth seems waiting some wild blow | D |
| Dreaded but far too close to ward or shun | E |
| Scared birds aloft fly aimless and below | D |
| Naught stirs in fields whence light and life are gone | F |
| Save floating leaves with wisps of straw and down | G |
| Upon the heavy air 'neath blue black skies | H |
| Livid and yellow the green landscape lies | H |
| - | |
| And all the while the dreadful thunder breaks | I |
| Within the hollow circle of the hills | J |
| With gathering might that angry echoes wakes | I |
| And earth and heaven with unused clamor fills | J |
| O'erhead still flame those strange electric thrills | J |
| A moment more behold yon bolt struck home | K |
| And over ruined fields the storm hath come | L |
