Off Rough Point Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHIH JAJA

We sat at twilight nigh the seaA
The fog hung gray and weirdB
Through the thick film uncannilyA
The broken moon appearedB
-
We heard the billows crack and plungeC
We saw nor waves nor shipsD
Earth sucked the vapors like a spongeC
The salt spray wet our lipsD
-
Closer the woof of white mist drewE
Before behind besideF
How could that phantom moon break throughE
Above that shrouded tideF
-
The roaring waters filled the earG
A white blank foiled the sightH
Close gathering shadows near more nearI
Brought the blind awful nightH
-
O friends who passed unseen unknownJ
O dashing troubled seaA
Still stand we on a rock aloneJ
Walled round by mysteryA
