Night-thoughts. (translations From The Hebrew Poets Of Medaeval Spain.) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEF GFHIJKLMNOPQRSCTUVWQ XKYSFZA2 B2

Will night already spread her wings and weaveA
Her dusky robe about the day's bright formB
Boldly the sun's fair countenance displacingC
And swathe it with her shadow in broad dayD
So a green wreath of mist enrings the moonE
Till envious clouds do quite encompass herF
-
No wind and yet the slender stem is stirredG
With faint slight motion as from inward tremorF
Mine eyes are full of grief who sees me asksH
Oh wherefore dost thou cling unto the groundI
My friends discourse with sweet and soothing wordsJ
They all are vain they glide above my headK
I fain would check my tears would fain enlargeL
Unto infinity my heart in vainM
Grief presses hard my breast therefore my tearsN
Have scarcely dried ere they again spring forthO
For these are streams no furnace heat may quenchP
Nebuchadnezzar's flames may dry them notQ
What is the pleasure of the day for meR
If in its crucible I must renewS
Incessantly the pangs of purifyingC
Up challenge wrestle and o'ercome Be strongT
The late grapes cover all the vine with fruitU
I am not glad though even the lion's prideV
Content itself upon the field's poor grassW
My spirit sinks beneath the tide soars notQ
With fluttering seamews on the moist soft strandX
I follow Fortune not where'er she leadK
Lord o'er myself I banish her compelY
And though her clouds should rain no blessed dewS
Though she withhold the crown the heart's desireF
Though all deceive though honey change to gallZ
Still am I lord and will in freedom striveA2
