Forget thine anguishA
Vexed heart againB
Why shouldst thou languishA
With earthly painC
The husk shall slumberD
Bedded in clayE
Silent and sombreD
Oblivion's preyD
But Spirit immortalF
Thou at Death's portalF
Tremblest with fearD
If he caress theeG
Curse thee or bless theeG
Thou must draw nearD
From him the worth of thy works to hearD
-
Why full of terrorD
Compassed with errorD
Trouble thy heartH
For thy mortal partH
The soul flies homeI
The corpse is dumbJ
Of all thou didst haveK
Follows naught to the graveL
Thou fliest thy nestM
Swift as a bird to thy place of restM
-
What avail grief and fastingN
Where nothing is lastingN
Pomp dominationO
Become tribulationO
In a health giving draughtP
A death dealing shaftP
Wealth an illusionO
Power a lieQ
Over all dissolutionO
Creeps silent and slyQ
Unto others remainC
The goods thou didst gainC
With infinite painC
-
Life is a vine branchR
A vintager DeathS
He threatens and lowersT
More near with each breathS
Then hasten ariseU
Seek God O my soulV
For time quickly fliesU
Still far is the goalV
Vain heart praying dumblyV
Learn to prize humblyV
The meanest of fareD
Forget all thy sorrowD
Behold Death is thereD
-
Dove like lamentingN
Be full of repentingN
Lift vision supernalV
To raptures eternalV
On ev'ry occasionO
Seek lasting salvationO
Pour thy heart out in weepingN
While others are sleepingN
Pray to Him when all's stillV
Performing his willV
And so shall the angel of peace be thy wardenO
And guide thee at last to the heavenly gardenO
