Idyl Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDED FGHGIJKJ LMNMNOLO PQPQPGRG

The swallows made twitter incessantA
The thrushes were wild with their mirthB
The ways and the woods were made pleasantA
And the flowering nooks of the earthB
And the sunshine sufficed to rejoice meC
And the air was as bracing as wineD
And the sky and the shadows and grassesE
Were enough to make living divineD
-
Then I saw on the ground two gray robinsF
One with glorious flame colored vestG
'Neath the shade of some delicate bluebellsH
By the breeze of the morning caressedG
They were singing of love in the shadowI
She was bashful and modest and coyJ
And he sang to her tenderest love songsK
And madrigals full of his joyJ
-
And his song came forth clearer and clearerL
With each passionate musical noteM
Like the ripple of silvery watersN
It gushed from his beautiful throatM
His whole little bird soul he offersN
Ah she listens to him as he singsO
Then he ceases awaiting her answerL
With bright eyes and with quivering wingsO
-
And I too stood awaiting it breathlessP
For his song was too sweet to disdainQ
Till it came little notes full of gladnessP
With a plaintive and tender refrainQ
And the songs died away in the distanceP
And the forest alone heard the restG
As the two little lovers flew upwardR
To build them together a nestG
