Fancies Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABC BDB DED EFE GHG HIH IJJ JJJ JKC

The ceaseless whirr of crickets fills the earA
From underneath each hedge and bush and treeB
Deep in the dew drenched grasses everywhereC
-
The simple sound dispels the fantasyB
Of gloom and terror gathering round the mindD
It seems a pleasant thing to breathe to beB
-
To hear the many voiced soft summer windD
Lisp through the dark thick leafage overheadE
To see the rosy half moon soar behindD
-
The black slim branching elms Sad thoughts have fledE
Trouble and doubt and now strange reveriesF
And odd caprices fill us in their steadE
-
From yonder broken disk the redness diesG
Like gold fruit through the leaves the half sphere gleamsH
Then over the hoar tree tops climbs the skiesG
-
Blanched ever more and more until it beamsH
Whiter than crystal Like a scroll unfurledI
And shadowy as a landscape seen in dreamsH
-
Reveals itself the sleeping quiet worldI
Painted in tender grays and whites subduedJ
The speckled stream with flakes of light impearledJ
-
The wide soft meadow and the massive woodJ
Naught is too wild for our credulityJ
In this weird hour our finest dreams hold goodJ
-
Quaint elves and frolic flower sprites we seeJ
And fairies weaving rings of gossamerK
And angels floating through the filmy airC
