Fancies Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABC BDB DED EFE GHG HIH IJJ JJJ JKCThe ceaseless whirr of crickets fills the ear | A |
From underneath each hedge and bush and tree | B |
Deep in the dew drenched grasses everywhere | C |
- | |
The simple sound dispels the fantasy | B |
Of gloom and terror gathering round the mind | D |
It seems a pleasant thing to breathe to be | B |
- | |
To hear the many voiced soft summer wind | D |
Lisp through the dark thick leafage overhead | E |
To see the rosy half moon soar behind | D |
- | |
The black slim branching elms Sad thoughts have fled | E |
Trouble and doubt and now strange reveries | F |
And odd caprices fill us in their stead | E |
- | |
From yonder broken disk the redness dies | G |
Like gold fruit through the leaves the half sphere gleams | H |
Then over the hoar tree tops climbs the skies | G |
- | |
Blanched ever more and more until it beams | H |
Whiter than crystal Like a scroll unfurled | I |
And shadowy as a landscape seen in dreams | H |
- | |
Reveals itself the sleeping quiet world | I |
Painted in tender grays and whites subdued | J |
The speckled stream with flakes of light impearled | J |
- | |
The wide soft meadow and the massive wood | J |
Naught is too wild for our credulity | J |
In this weird hour our finest dreams hold good | J |
- | |
Quaint elves and frolic flower sprites we see | J |
And fairies weaving rings of gossamer | K |
And angels floating through the filmy air | C |
