Exultation Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABC DEF GHB IJA AKL MEL NHK LEL JOP AQ QRB

BEHOLD I walked abroad at early morningA
The fields of June were bathed in dew and lustreB
The hills were clad with light as with a garmentC
-
The inexpressible auroral freshnessD
The grave immutable aerial heavensE
The transient clouds above the quiet landscapeF
-
The heavy odor of the passionate lilacsG
That hedged the road with sober colored clustersH
All these o'ermastered me with subtle powerB
-
And made my rural walk a royal progressI
Peopled my solitude with airy spiritsJ
Who hovered over me with joyous singingA
-
'Behold ' they sang 'the glory of the morningA
Through every vein does not the summer tingleK
With vague desire and flush of expectationL
-
'To think how fair is life set round with grandeurM
The eloquent sea beneath the voiceless heavensE
The shifting shows of every bounteous seasonL
-
'Rich skies fantastic clouds and herby meadowsN
Gray rivers prairies spread with regal flowersH
Grasses and grains and herds of browsing cattleK
-
'Great cities filled with breathing men and womenL
Of whom the basest have their aspirationsE
High impulses of courage or affectionL
-
'And on this brave earth still those finer spiritsJ
Heroic Valor admirable FriendshipO
And Love itself a very god among youP
-
'All these for thee and thou evoked from nothingA
Born from blank darkness to this blaze of beautyQ
Where is thy faith and where are thy thanksgivings '-
-
The world is his who can behold it rightlyQ
Who hears the harmonies of unseen angelsR
Above the senseless outcry of the hourB
