The Visionary Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EEFF GGHH IGJJ

Silent is the house all are laid asleepA
One alone looks out o er the snow wreaths deepA
Watching every cloud dreading every breezeB
That whirls the wildering drift and bends the groaning treesB
-
Cheerful is the hearth soft the matted floorC
Not one shivering gust creeps through pane or doorC
The little lamp burns straight its rays shoot strong and farD
I trim it well to be the wanderer s guiding starD
-
Frown my haughty sire chide my angry dameE
Set your slaves to spy threaten me with shameE
But neither sire nor dame nor prying serf shall knowF
What angel nightly tracks that waste of frozen snowF
-
What I love shall come like visitant of airG
Safe in secret power from lurking human snareG
What loves me no word of mine shall e er betrayH
Though for faith unstained my life must forfeit payH
-
Burn then little lamp glimmer straight and clearI
Hush a rustling wing stirs methinks the airG
He for whom I wait thus ever comes to meJ
Strange Power I trust thy might trust thou my constancyJ
