The blue bell is the sweetest flower	A
That waves in summer air	B
Its blossoms have the mightiest power	A
To soothe my spirit's care	B

There is a spell in purple heath	C
Too wildly sadly dear	D
The violet has a fragrant breath	E
But fragrance will not cheer	D

The trees are bare the sun is cold	F
And seldom seldom seen	G
The heavens have lost their zone of gold	F
The earth its robe of green	G

And ice upon the glancing stream	H
Has cast its sombre shade	I
And distant hills and valleys seem	H
In frozen mist arrayed	I

The blue bell cannot charm me now	J
The heath has lost its bloom	K
The violets in the glen below	L
They yield no sweet perfume	K

But though I mourn the heather bell	M
'Tis better far away	N
I know how fast my tears would swell	M
To see it smile today	N

And that wood flower that hides so shy	O
Beneath the mossy stone	P
Its balmy scent and dewy eye	O
'Tis not for them I moan	P

It is the slight and stately stem	Q
The blossom's silvery blue	R
The buds hid like a sapphire gem	Q
In sheaths of emerald hue	R

'Tis these that breathe upon my heart	S
A calm and softening spell	M
That if it makes the tear drop start	S
Has power to soothe as well	M

For these I weep so long divided	T
Through winter's dreary day	N
In longing weep but most when guided	T
On withered banks to stray	N

If chilly then the light should fall	U
Adown the dreary sky	O
And gild the dank and darkened wall	U
With transient brilliancy	V

How do I yearn how do I pine	W
For the time of flowers to come	X
And turn me from that fading shine	W
To mourn the fields of home	Y
