A something in a summer's dayA
As sIow her flambeaux burn awayA
Which solemnizes meB
-
A something in a summer's noonC
An azure depth a wordless tuneC
Transcending ecstasyB
-
And still within a summer's nightD
A something so transporting brightD
I clap my hands to seeB
-
Then veil my too inspecting faceE
Lest such a subtle shimmering graceE
Flutter too far for meB
-
The wizard fingers never restF
The purple brook within the breastF
Still chafes its narrow bedG
-
Still rears the East her amber flagH
Guides still the sun along the cragH
His caravan of redG
-
Like flowers that heard the tale of dewsI
But never deemed the dripping prizeJ
Awaited their low browsK
-
Or bees that thought the summer's nameL
Some rumor of deliriumM
No summer could for themN
-
Or Arctic creature dimly stirredO
By tropic hint some travelled birdO
Imported to the woodP
-
Or wind's bright signal to the earQ
Making that homely and severeR
Contented known beforeS
-
The heaven unexpected cameL
To lives that thought their worshippingH
A too presumptuous psalmT
