"if You Were Coming In The Fall," Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JKLK MNKN

If you were coming in the fallA
I'd brush the summer byB
With half a smile and half a spurnC
As housewives do a flyB
-
If I could see you in a yearD
I'd wind the months in ballsE
And put them each in separate drawersF
Until their time befallsE
-
If only centuries delayedG
I'd count them on my handH
Subtracting till my fingers droppedI
Into Van Diemen's landH
-
If certain when this life was outJ
That yours and mine should beK
I'd toss it yonder like a rindL
And taste eternityK
-
But now all ignorant of the lengthM
Of time's uncertain wingN
It goads me like the goblin beeK
That will not state its stingN
