By The Sea Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JHKH LMNO PQRH

I started early took my dogA
And visited the seaB
The mermaids in the basementC
Came out to look at meB
-
And frigates in the upper floorD
Extended hempen handsE
Presuming me to be a mouseF
Aground upon the sandsE
-
But no man moved me till the tideG
Went past my simple shoeH
And past my apron and my beltI
And past my bodice tooH
-
And made as he would eat me upJ
As wholly as a dewH
Upon a dandelion's sleeveK
And then I started tooH
-
And he he followed close behindL
I felt his silver heelM
Upon my ankle then my shoesN
Would overflow with pearlO
-
Until we met the solid townP
No man he seemed to knowQ
And bowing with a mighty lookR
At me the sea withdrewH
