Sir Knight of the world's oldest orderA
Sir Knight of the Army of GodB
You have crossed the strange mystical borderA
The ground floor of truth you have trodB
You stand on the typical thresholdC
Which leads to the temple aboveD
Where you come as a stone and a Christ chosen oneE
In the Kingdom of Friendship and LoveD
-
As you stand in this new realm of beautyF
Where each man you meet is your friendG
Think not that your promise of dutyF
In hall or asylum shall endG
Outside in the great world of pleasureA
Beyond in the clamour of tradeH
In the battle of life and its coarse daily strifeI
Remember the vows you have madeH
-
Your service majestic and solemnJ
Your symbols suggestive and sweetK
Your uniform phalanx in columnJ
On gala days marching the streetK
Your sword and your plume and your helmetL
Your 'secrets' hid from the world's sightM
These things are the small lesser parts of the allN
Which are needed to form the true KnightM
-
The martyrs who perished rejoicingO
In Templary's glorious lawsP
Who died 'midst the faggots while voicingO
The glory and worth of their causeQ
They honoured the title of 'Templar'A
No more than the Knight of to dayR
Who mars not the name with one blemish of shameS
But carries it clean through life's frayR
-
To live for a cause to endeavourA
To make your deeds grace it to tryA
And uphold its precepts for everA
Is harder by far than to dieA
For the battle of life is unendingO
The enemy Self never tiresT
And the true Knight must slay that sly foe every dayR
Ere he reaches the heights he desiresT
-
Sir Knight have you pondered the meaningO
Of all you have heard and been toldC
Have you strengthened your heart for its weaningO
From vices and faults loved of oldC
Will you honour in hours of temptationE
Your promises noble and grandU
Will your spirit be strong to do battle with wrongV
'And having done all to stand'U
-
Will you ever be true to a brotherA
In actions as well as in creedU
Will you stand by his side as no otherA
Could stand in the hour of his needU
Will you boldly defend him from perilW
And lift from him poverty's curseX
Will the promise of old which you willingly madeU
Reach down from your lips to your purseX
-
The world's battle field is before youY
Let Wisdom walk close by your sideU
Let Faith spread her snowy wings o'er youY
Let Truth be your comrade and guideU
Let Fortitude Justice and MercyF
Direct all your conduct arightU
And let each word and act tell to men the proud factU
You are worthy the name of 'Sir Knight '-
