Worldly Wisdom Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEG HIHI JKJK

If it were in my dead Past s powerA
To let my Present baskB
In some lost pleasure for an hourA
This is the boon I d askB
-
Re pedestal from out the dustC
Where long ago twas hurledD
My beautiful incautious trustC
In this unworthy worldD
-
The symbol of my souls own truthE
I saw it go with tearsF
The sweet unwisdom of my youthE
That vanished with the yearsG
-
Since knowledge brings us only griefH
I would return againI
To happy ignorance and beliefH
In motives and in menI
-
For worldly wisdom learned in painJ
Is in itself a crossK
Significant mayhap of gainJ
Yet sign of saddest lossK
