Work For Woman Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDDEFFGHI JJKKLLMNNOOP QQRRSSTUBDDT VVOOWWDXXYYD

Woman sitting at your easeA
In the midst of luxuriesA
Bound by chains of selfishnessB
With no aim but 'how to dress 'C
Does the thought ne'er come to youD
Of the thing that you could doD
Could and yet do notE
To crush out the liquor tradeF
That is making and has madeF
Sin and shame and woe and tearsG
In our land for years and yearsH
Have you never thoughtI
-
-
You will chat for hours and hoursJ
Over ribbons silks and flowersJ
But you will not talk or thinkK
Of this growing evil drinkK
You will weep and smile and laughL
Over trashy books of chaffL
But you will not readM
Any truthful temperance taleN
'They are all so dry and staleN
Just the same old thing ' you sayO
As you yawn and turn awayO
From the truths you needP
-
-
You have time for rout and ballQ
Concert theatre and allQ
Lectures save on this one themeR
'Oh these temperance lectures seemR
So extremely dull ' you cryS
With a listless air and eyeS
O my friend forsakeT
That absorbing theme of DRESSU
Drop for once your selfishnessB
Think of all there is to doD
See the work that waits for youD
Up arouse awakeT
-
-
There are men for you to saveV
From the wretched drunkard's graveV
There are feet that strayed awayO
Into paths of sin one dayO
You can bring them if you willW
To the paths upon the hillW
There's enough to doD
There's much to do and little doneX
Women sisters every oneX
Lend a helping hand nor shirkY
Any part of God's great workY
Come we've need of youD
