That made her kingdom FOR HER no other | D |

The primal mate and the primal mother | D |

And lightly she lifted and bore each burden | H |
Lightly she laughed in the eyes of fear | G |
For love was her recompense love her guerdon | H |
And never in camp or in cave or in home | I |
Rose voice of mother or mate complaining | J |
And never the foot of her sought to roam | I |
Till love in the heart of the man seemed waning | J |

In the broad rich furrows by woman turned | K |
Man unwitting set plough and harrow | L |
For worlds to conquer she had not yearned | K |
Till he spoke of her feminine sphere as 'narrow ' | - |
The lullaby changed to a martial strain | H |
When he took her travail and song for granted | M |
And forth she forged in his own domain | H |
Till the strange 'new woman ' the old supplanted | M |

'Strange' with the glow of a wakened soul | N |
And 'new' with the purpose of large endeavour | D |
She turned her face to the higher goal | N |
To the higher goal it is turned for ever | D |
Trade and science and craft and art | O |
Have opened their doors to the call of woman | H |
And greater she grows in her greater part | O |
More tenderly wise and more sweetly human | H |

Brave foremothers of freedom's birth | P |
Smile through space on your splendid daughters | Q |
At one with liberty lighting the earth | P |
Their torches flame o'er the darkest waters | Q |

To cheer and welcome the coming races | T |

War was the price of the freedom you bought | V |
But PEACE is the watchword of Evolution | H |
The progress of woman means progress of peace | W |
She wars on war and its hosts alarming | J |
And her great love battle will never cease | W |
Till the glory is seen of a world disarming | J |
