Wishes Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJI KLKL

Whatever you want if you wish for it longA
With constant yearning and fervent desireB
If your wish soars upward on wings so strongA
That they never grow languid and never tireB
-
Why over the storm clouds and out of the darkC
It shall come flying some day to youD
As the dove with the olive branch flew to the arkC
And the dream you have cherished it shall come trueD
-
But lest much rapture shall make you madE
Or too bright sunshine should strike you blindF
Along with your blessing a something sadE
Shall come like a shadow that follows behindF
-
Something unwelcome and unforeseenG
Yet of your hope and your wish a partH
Shall stand like a sentinel in betweenG
The perfect joy and the human heartH
-
I wished for a cloudless and golden dayI
It came but I looked from my window to seeJ
A giant shadow which seemed to sayI
'If you ask for the sunlight you must take me '-
-
Oh a wonderful thing is the human willK
When seeking one purpose and serving one endL
But I think it is wiser to just sit stillK
And accept whatever the gods may sendL
