What Shall We Do? Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGI BJBJ

Here now for evermore our lives must partA
My path leads there and yours another wayB
What shall we do with this fond love dear heartA
It grows a heavier burden day by dayB
-
Hide it In all earth s caverns void and vastC
There is not room enough to hide it dearD
Not even the mighty storehouse of the pastC
Could cover it from our own eyes I fearD
-
Drown it Why were the contents of each oceanE
Merged into one great sea too shallow thenF
Would be its waters to sink this emotionE
So deep it could not rise to life againF
-
Burn it In all the furnace flames belowG
It would not in a thousand years expireH
Nay It would thrive exult expand and growG
For from its very birth it fed on fireI
-
Starve it Yes yes that is the only wayB
Give it no more food of glance or word or sighJ
No memories even of any bygone dayB
No crumbs of vain regrets so let it dieJ
