Unrest Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIJGEGE AEAEIKIKIn the youth of the year when the birds were building | A |
When the green was showing on tree and hedge | B |
And the tenderest light of all lights was gilding | A |
The world from zenith to outermost edge | B |
My soul grew sad and longingly lonely | C |
I sighed for the season of sun and rose | D |
And I said In the Summer and that time only | C |
Lies sweet contentment and blest repose | D |
- | |
With bee and bird for her maids of honour | E |
Came Princess Summer in robes of green | F |
And the King of day smiled down upon her | E |
And wooed her and won her and made her queen | F |
Fruit of their union and true love's pledges | G |
Beautiful roses bloomed day by day | H |
And rambled in gardens and hid in hedges | G |
Like royal children in sportive play | H |
- | |
My restless soul for a little season | I |
Revelled in rapture of glow and bloom | J |
And then like a subject who harbours treason | I |
Grew full of rebellion and grey with gloom | J |
And I said I am sick of the summer's blisses | G |
Of warmth and beauty and nothing more | E |
The full fruition my sad soul misses | G |
That beauteous Fall time holds in store | E |
- | |
But now when the colours are almost blinding | A |
Burning and blending on bush and tree | E |
And the rarest fruits are mine for the finding | A |
And the year is ripe as a year can be | E |
My soul complains in the same old fashion | I |
Crying aloud in my troubled breast | K |
Is the same old longing the same old passion | I |
O where is the treasure which men call rest | K |
