Two Sinners Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DDEEFF AA CCGGHH IIJJ KK LL

There was a man it was said one timeA
Who went astray in his youthful primeA
Can the brain keep cool and the heart keep quietB
When the blood is a river that s running riotB
And boys will be boys the old folks sayC
And the man is better who s had his dayC
-
The sinner reformed and the preacher toldD
Of the prodigal son who came back to the foldD
And Christian people threw open the doorE
With a warmer welcome than ever beforeE
Wealth and honour were his to commandF
And a spotless woman gave him her handF
-
And the world strewed their pathway with blossoms aboomA
Crying God bless ladye and God bless groomA
-
There was a maiden who went astrayC
In the golden dawn of her life s young dayC
She had more passion and heart than headG
And she followed blindly where fond Love ledG
And Love unchecked is a dangerous guideH
To wander at will by a fair girl s sideH
-
The woman repented and turned from sinI
But no door opened to let her inI
The preacher prayed that she might be forgivenJ
But told her to look for mercy in HeavenJ
-
For this is the law of the earth we knowK
That the woman is stoned while the man may goK
-
A brave man weddded her after allL
But the world said frowning We shall not callL
