Two Sat Down Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ

Two sat down in the morning timeA
One to sing and one to spinB
All men listened the song sublimeA
But no one listened the dull wheel's dinB
-
The singer sat in a pleasant nookC
And sang of a life that was fair and sweetD
While the spinner sat with a steadfast lookC
Busily plying her hands and feetD
-
The singer sang on with a rose in her hairE
And all men listened her dulcet toneF
And the spinner spun on with a dull despairE
Down in her heart as she sat aloneF
-
But lo on the morrow no one saidG
Aught of the singer or what she sangH
Men were saying Behold this threadG
And loud the praise of the spinner rangH
-
The world has forgotten the singer's nameI
Her rose is faded her songs are oldJ
But far o'er the ocean the spinner's fameI
Yet is blazoned in lines of goldJ
