Two Roses Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD BEBE FGFG AHAH AAAA

A humble wild rose pink and slenderA
Was plucked and placed in a bright bouquetB
Beside a Jacqueminot s royal splendourA
And both in my lady s boudoir layB
-
Said the haughty bud in a tone of scorningC
I wonder why you are called a roseD
Your leaves will fade in a single morningC
No blood of mine in your pale cheek glowsD
-
Your course green stalk shows dust of the highwayB
You have no depths of fragrant bloomE
And what could you learn in a rustic bywayB
To fit you to lie in my lady s roomE
-
If called to adorn her warm white bosomF
What have you to offer for such a placeG
Beside my fragrant and splendid blossomF
Ripe with colour and rich with graceG
-
Said the sweet wild rose Despite your dowerA
Of finer breeding and deeper hueH
Despite your beauty fair high bred flowerA
It is I who should lie on her breast not youH
-
For small account is your hot house gloryA
Beside the knowledge that came to meA
When I heard by the wayside love s old storyA
And felt the kiss of the amorous beeA
