Time's Gaze Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEF GHIJKLMAN OPQRSFTUFVWJXYZ

Time looked me in the eyes while passing byA
The milestone of the year That piercing gazeB
Was both an accusation and reproachC
No speech was needed In a sorrowing lookD
More meaning lies than in complaining wordsE
And silence hurts as keenly as reproofF
-
Oh opulent kind giver of rich hoursG
How have I used thy benefits As babesH
Unstring a necklace laughing at the soundI
Of priceless jewels dropping one by oneJ
So have I laughed while precious moments rolledK
Into the hidden corners of the pastL
And I have let large opportunitiesM
For high endeavour move unheeded byA
While little joys and cares absorbed my strengthN
-
And yet dear Time set to my credit thisO
NOT ONE WHITE HOUR HAVE I MADE BLACK WITH HATEP
NOR WISHED ONE LIVING CREATURE AUGHT BUT GOODQ
Be patient with me Though the sun slants westR
The day has not yet finished and I feelS
Necessity for action and resolveF
Bear in upon my consciousness I knowT
The earth's eternal need of earnest soulsU
And the great hunger of the world for LoveF
I know the goal to high achievement liesV
Through the dull pathway of self conquest firstW
And on the stairs of little duties doneJ
We climb to joys that stand thy test O TimeX
Be patient with me and another dayY
Perchance in passing by thine eyes may smileZ
