Thy Ship Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDE FGHIJKDL MNOPQRS TUVWXYZA2O

Hadst thou a ship in whose vast hold lay storedA
The priceless riches of all climes and landsB
Say woudst thou let it float upon the seasC
Unpiloted of fickle winds the sportD
And of wild waves and hidden rocks the preyE
-
Thine is that ship and in its depths concealedF
Lies all the wealth of this vast universeG
Yea lies some part of God s omnipotenceH
The legacy divine of every soulI
Thy will O man thy will is that great shipJ
And yet behold it drifting here and thereK
One moment lying motionless in portD
Then on high seas by sudden impulse flungL
-
Then drying on the sands and yet againM
Sent forth on idle quests to no man s landN
To carry nothing and to nothing bringO
Till worn and fretted by the aimless strifeP
And buffeted by vacillating windsQ
It flounders on a rock or springs a leakR
With all its unused treasures in the holdS
-
Go save thy ship thou sluggard that the wheelT
And steer to knowledge glory and successU
Great mariners have made the pathway plainV
For thee to follow hold thou to the courseW
Of Concentration Channel and all thingsX
Shall come in answer to thy swerveless wishY
As comes the needle to the magnet s callZ
Or sunlight to the prisoned blade of grassA2
That yearns all winter for the kiss of springO
