An artist toiled over his picturesA
He laboured by night and by dayB
He struggled for glory and honourC
But the world it had nothing to sayB
His walls were ablaze with the splendoursB
We see in the beautiful skiesB
But the world beheld only the coloursB
That were made out of chemical dyesB
-
Time sped And he lived loved and sufferedD
He passed through the valley of griefE
Again he toiled over his canvasB
Since in labour alone was reliefE
It showed not the splendour of coloursB
Of those of his earlier yearsB
But the world the world bowed down before itF
Because it was painted with tearsB
-
A poet was gifted with geniusB
And he sang and he sang all the daysB
He wrote for the praise of the peopleG
But the people accorded no praiseB
Oh his songs were as blithe as the morningH
As sweet as the music of birdsB
But the world had no homage to offerC
Because they were nothing but wordsB
-
Time sped And the poet through sorrowC
Became like his suffering kindI
Again he toiled over his poemsB
To lighten the grief of his mindI
They were not so flowing and rhythmicJ
As those of his earlier yearsB
But the world lo it offered its homageK
Because they were written in tearsB
-
So ever the price must be givenL
By those seeking glory in artM
So ever the world is repayingH
The grief stricken suffering heartM
The happy must ever be humbleG
Ambition must wait for the yearsB
Ere hoping to win the approvalG
Of a world that looks on through its tearsB
