The World Grows Better Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABACAC DEDEFGFG AHAHIJIJ KLKLMNON PQRQFGFG

Oh the earth is full of sinningA
And of trouble and of woeB
But the devil makes an inningA
Every time we say it's soB
And the way to set him scowlingA
And to put him back a paceC
Is to stop this stupid growlingA
And to look things in the faceC
-
If you glance at history's pagesD
In all lands and eras knownE
You will find the buried agesD
Far more wicked than our ownE
As you scan each word and letterF
You will realise it moreG
That the world to day is betterF
Than it ever was beforeG
-
There is much that needs amendingA
In the present time no doubtH
There is right that needs amendingA
There is wrong needs crushing outH
And we hear the groans and cursesI
Of the poor who starve and dieJ
While the men with swollen pursesI
In the place of hearts go byJ
-
But in spite of all the troubleK
That obscures the sun to dayL
Just remember it was doubleK
In the ages passed awayL
And those wrongs shall all be rightedM
Good shall dominate the landN
For the darkness now is lightedO
By the torch in Science's handN
-
Forth from little motes in ChaosP
We have come to what we areQ
And no evil force can stay usR
We shall mount from star to starQ
We shall break each bond and fetterF
That has bound us heretoforeG
And the earth is surely betterF
Than it ever was beforeG
