The Under-tone Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCAA DDEE FGHH IIJJ KKLL BBMM

In the dull dim dawn of day I heardA
The twitter and thrill of a brown backed birdA
As he sat and sang in the leafless treeB
A herald of beautiful days to beB
-
But the minor running under the strainC
Went to my heart with a sudden painC
For never so sad a sound I heardA
As the troubled thrill of the brown backed birdA
-
Not in the wearisome wash of wavesD
With moaning murmur of wrecks and gravesD
Not in the weird winds' wildest wailE
Not in the roar of the rushing galeE
-
Not in the sob of dying yearsF
Are sounds so solemn and full of tearsG
O herald of days that are green and gladH
Why was your morning song so sadH
-
Have you a secret hidden awayI
Of sorrow to come with a coming dayI
Folded under a folded leafJ
Lies there trouble and bitter griefJ
-
The shadow of death and tears and gloomK
Coming to me when roses bloomK
Will the beautiful days I long for soL
Hold like your song a strain of woeL
-
What is the secret you hide from meB
O herald of days that are to beB
And why was that desolate minor moanM
Lurking under your gladdest toneM
